"Finding Aicha" Screening with Post-Screening Panel Discussion

The Centre of Islamic Studies at SOAS invites you to a Screening and Post-Screening Panel Discussion of 'Finding Aicha',^* an award winning and critically acclaimed MPWR production for CBC and the BBC.

On 13 November 2015, Islamic State launched a series of coordinated attacks on the Bataclan Hall and other Paris venues, killing 130 people. Azdyne’s son, Samy Amimour – 28 years old, was one of the three Bataclan attackers. George Salines lost his daughter, Lola – also 28, on this night.

In the aftermath of the Bataclan attacks, and on discovering his son’s involvement Azdyne struggles with guilt and shame and grapples with why and how his ‘quiet and thoughtful’ son became radicalised. He joins the national attempt to understand the tragedy, and to heal society and himself, while also trying to find his, previously unseen, granddaughter, Aicha.

About the panel

We are pleased to confirm that Azdyne Amimour and George Salines will come in from Paris to be on the panel; they will be joined by the director and producer, Dr Myriam François, and SOAS' own Dr Samia Bano. The discussion will be held in English and facilitated by an interpreter.
