As a leading UK research library (RLUK), we have over 1.3 million volumes, periodicals and audio-visual materials in 400 languages, and special collections of manuscripts, rare books, and archives – all focusing on the study of Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Christmas opening hours
The Library will close for the festive season at 12:00pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 and re-open at 9:30am on Saturday 4 January 2025 when normal opening hours will resume.
Existing members
External members with valid SOAS Library card do not need to book to visit SOAS Library. If you don't yet have an up-to-date membership, please apply for membership. We will contact you to arrange an appointment for you to collect your new ID card when it is ready.
Essential maintenace on SOAS Library systems
Essential maintenance will take place on SOAS library systems on Saturday 21 December from 5:00am to 6:00pm.
During this period, you will not be able to access the library catalogue or your library account. Our self-service machines onsite will also be affected.
SOAS Digital Collections will also be unavailable from 11.00pm on 24 December to 5:00am on 29 December.
