The Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at SOAS continues its autumn series of events with a guest lecture by James K. Galbraith entitled The Great Crisis and the Dismal Science: How the Economists Got It Wrong… Again. The lecture will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 October.
Since the onset of the current financial and economic crisis, Professor Galbraith has been the most outspoken and iconoclastic voice for progressive economics in the United States. A former executive director of the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress, Galbraith is currently the Lloyd M. Bentsen Jr. Chair of Government/Business Relations and Professor of Government at the University of Texas.

Galbraith’s lecture will be followed by the Centre’s Fourth London Conference on A Middle East WMD-Free Zone, to be held Monday, 5 October.
The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome address by Professor Paul Webley, Director and Principal of SOAS. Guest speakers include Ambassador Jayantha Dhanapala, HE Mr. Hatem Seif El-Nasr (Egyptian Ambassador to the UK), HE Dr. Wael Al Assad (League of Arab States) and Professor Nick Wheeler (Aberystwyth University).
