Biography
Dr Tolar studied Art History (BA) in Ljubljana, Slovenia and Medieval Studies (MA) at Central European University, Budapest before coming to SOAS to study History of Art and Archaeology (MA). She has completed a PhD thesis on a topic of Islamic enamelled glass and its connections with Byzantium and Venice in 2014 at SOAS, London. She taught at SOAS as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the undergraduate course Introduction to the Art and Archaeology of Near and Middle East in 2011. In 2012 she was the first intern on a project “Illuminating Objects”, researching one object from a group of Spanish lusterware from the Courtauld Institute. Since 2014 she has been teaching as a Senior Teaching Fellow on courses Arab Painting and Mosaics, Manuscripts, and Wall Painting in Islamic Art.

Art and architecture of the Islamic world; Cross-cultural dimensions of Islamic material culture; Glass and Ceramics of Islamic lands; Orientalism.
