Biography
Alexej Ulbricht is Lecturer in Political Theory at SOAS. He has worked in various capacities in the Department of Politics and International Studies at SOAS since 2011, teaching modules on Political Theory, Political Analysis, Religion and World Politics, and the Climate Crisis. He has also worked as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster and spent three years working within the Children’s Social Care division of the Department for Education. His main interests lie in contemporary political theory, especially critical and postcolonial approaches.
Research interests
Alexej’s work focuses on exclusions within liberalism and how liberal discourses provide conceptual resources for illiberal groups to mobilise within civil society. He has explored this in a number of areas including the backlash against liberal multiculturalism, homo-nationalist media-narratives, and anti-abortion activism. He is currently working on two projects: one on discourses within liberal democracies mobilising against effective climate-action, and one on notions of fairness and justice in the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.
