Biography
Helina is a PhD candidate at SOAS in the Department of Development Studies. Her PhD is focused on the question of ‘belonging’, specifically on how Ethiopian migrants to the UK understand and experience this concept in new and changing spaces. Helina has over five years of experience researching and working in the fields of migration, policy, asylum and refugee matters across Canada, Palestine, the Eastern Horn of Africa and the UK. Helina recently completed her MSc in Research for International Development (SOAS – University of London) and also holds a MA in International Relations (University of Bath) and BA in Political Science and Sociology (University of Toronto).
