Prior to completing her MA in History of Art and Archaeology of East Asia at SOAS, she obtained a BA with First Class honours in Art History and LLB double degree from the University of Sydney after conducting fieldwork in north and central Shanxi on Jin (1115-1234) tomb and temple mural programs.
