Professor John Sender is an emeritus professor at the Department of Economics of SOAS.
He has been Head of the Economics Department and Member of the Governing Body, SOAS, (1996-1998).
Lectured at the Universities of Dar es Salaam, Edinburgh and Cambridge. Appointments have included: Director of the African Studies Centre, University of Cambridge; Professor of Political Economy, University of the Witwatersrand; Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the African Studies Centre, Leiden (2003-5); Economic advisor in the Offices of the President of South Africa and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
