Biography
Nurlatipah Nasir is a PhD student in Development Studies at SOAS, University of London.
Her research focuses on the intersection of patriarchy, social reproduction and women’s labour in the tenun (traditional weaving) industry in Wajo, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Her work seeks to uncover the nuanced ways in which gendered power dynamics shape women's lives in this industry.
Before pursuing her PhD, she worked as a civil servant in the Secretariat General of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia. She holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Indonesia and a Master's in Politics and Governance from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. During her undergraduate studies, she was introduced to feminist political economy through her involvement in an informal feminist school organised by a local NGO in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Her academic interests also extend to cultural studies, influenced by her experience in research projects focused on traditional cultures and indigenous communities in rural Indonesia.
