Biography

Pierre Echaubard, Ph.D, is a health ecology and sustainability researcher. He has a scientific background in biodiversity and health as well as infectious diseases ecology and evolution combined with current expertise in implementation research for Health Development.

Pierre uses the framework provided by Social-Ecological Systems theory and its Resilience-based approaches to inform the design and management of integrated research projects in the arenas of vector-borne and parasitic diseases adaptive management, community-based biodiversity conservation, sustainable natural resources management and food production, health promotion and environmental health.

Pierre adapts tools such as participatory rural appraisal and related methods for community engagement; elements of pedagogy related to transformative and experiential learning for empowerment, collaborative learning and social innovation; system thinking skills and methodologies for transdisciplinary project planning, implementation and evaluation. Combined with a broad portfolio of scientific knowledge and analytic tools (form ecology to biomedicine), Pierre offers a unique expertise aiming at supporting projects’ outcomes sustainability as well as, social-ecological systems resilience and adaptive capacity at large.

Strong of this expertise and experience, Pierre also regularly teaches and coordinates courses in ecology and biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, Tropical medicine, Global and public health, as well as Holistic health and permaculture. 

Pierre has academic positions at SOAS University London and Laurentian University, Canada, is a regular consultant for international organizations such as WHO-TDR, Malaria Consortium, CIRAD, UNEP, WWF and is part of project-specific multi-institutional collaborative consortia. He is an associate Editor for Frontiers in Planetary Health and a member of the Editorial advisory board for Southeast Asia Research (Taylor & Francis)"
