Biography
Yu is a PhD Student in Economics at SOAS University of London.
Yu obtained a BSc in Business Economics and an MSc in Economics from Humboldt University Berlin. During her time at the European Investment Fund, Yu worked on climate risks which sparked her interest in conducting further research in this area. Following her graduate studies, Yu worked for the energy and climate transition at Compass Lexecon and as a researcher at the Finance Group at Humboldt University, where she deepened her knowledge of climate finance as well as debt financing.
Yu also spent some time working at the Goethe Institute in Malaysia, where she learnt about the importance of cultural exchange and international development cooperation to secure a just transition.
Yu’s PhD project investigates the impacts of the green transition on bank lending to micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs), with a particular focus on countries in the Global South. Through her research, she seeks to support the design of policies that can make the green transition a just transition.
Yu is currently working with the Alliance for Financial Inclusion on a research project that econometrically examines the impacts of disasters on bank lending to MSMEs. Her research is supported by a scholarship from Friedrich-Ebert Stiftung, a foundation striving for freedom, justice, solidarity, and the preservation of peace.
