Biography
Yuting Zhang is a PhD candidate from the Department of History at SOAS. She is interested in the cultural and historical study of China’s southwestern region in the interdisciplinary topics of visual art, landscape, cartography and material culture. Her publications include 100 Classical Artworks of China: Ni Zan (Shanghai Fine Arts Publisher, 2019), and the translation of On Quality in Art (Shanghai Fine Arts Publisher, 2024). With over ten years practice in Chinese painting and calligraphy, she coedited several books on painting theories and skills, for example, Selected Works of Chinese Classical Landscape Paintings (Shandong Fine Arts Publishing House, 2020) and Ren Mei Painting Manuals (People’s Fine Arts Publishing House, 2018). She also established a popular online platform ‘yongfutang’永福堂with over 20,000 subscribers to teach painting. Her articles can be found in New Arts, Art Panorama, Art Observation, etc.
Research interests
Landscape study, Transcultural study, Materiality and visuality in late imperial China.
