Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy
Overview
The Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy (CISD) is committed to the promotion of excellence in teaching, scholarship and research. Since its founding in 2000, the centre has become a premier space offering interdisciplinary and vocationally-oriented postgraduate teaching and training in global diplomacy and policy. Embedded in the Department of Politics and International Studies and drawing on the distinctive regional expertise across SOAS, our teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities look beyond traditional Western-centric approaches.
The centre is home to the MA International Studies and Diplomacy. This on-campus degree is designed for cross-disciplinary learning and combines an understanding of key concepts, theories and debates with effective practical skills training and a range of extra-curricular activities. The centre also offers a suite of postgraduate online programmes, such as the MA Global Diplomacy (Online). The full list of programmes can be found below.
Research
Through its members and associates, the centre is linked to a number of research projects. Postgraduate students are encouraged to engage with those projects, whether by taking part in events, as research assistants, or by writing their dissertation on a topic linked to those areas.
Through the Department of International Politics and International Studies, the centre is also linked to a rich and varied programme of conferences, lectures and other public events, which bring together academics, practitioners and students from around the world.
