Minimum entry requirements

Undergraduate study

Students who have completed recognised international qualifications, such as the International Baccalaureate, A-Levels or AP examinations, will be considered for direct entry to undergraduate programmes. For more information, please view our undergraduate entry requirements.

Applicants from Italy who have completed the General Secondary Education Certificate will be required to complete a Foundation Year before applying for undergraduate study.

Postgraduate study

SOAS will consider all applicants holding the equivalent of UK Lower Second-Class Honours undergraduate degree. For more information, please view our postgraduate entry requirements.

In addition, you should check the individual programme of study for any specific academic requirements.

Research applicants would normally be expected to have completed a Masters qualification from a good university.

English language proficiency

Applicants whose first language is not English will normally have to provide evidence of their English language proficiency. Please check our English language requirements for detailed information. SOAS does offer English summer courses (‘pre-sessionals’) for those who do not meet the exact entry requirements so that students have the opportunity to improve their language skills before beginning academic study.

Foundation courses

Those applicants who do not meet the above entry requirements or would like to improve their English language before studying for a degree, could consider applying for one of the foundation degrees offered at the SOAS IFCELS centre. Students can improve their English while studying academic courses in an area of their choice, including Development Studies, International Business, Media and Communication and International Politics.

Scholarships

SOAS offers a range of scholarships, bursaries and awards to support students. There are other scholarships provided by the University of London, the British Government and other external organisations. For further information please see Scholarships.

In-country representatives

SOAS works with the following local representatives in Poland who can support you with applying and any questions you might have:

UK/EU Funding

Italian students who are eligible for UK/EU fees can also apply for a loan from Student Finance. The loan covers your tuition fees, is paid direct to SOAS and does not need to be paid back until after you complete your studies.

Erasmus and Study Abroad opportunities

SOAS has Erasmus exchange agreements with a number of universities in Italy through which undergraduate and postgraduate students can study for one year or one semester at SOAS as part of their degree. More information can be found on the Socrates/ Erasmus pages. In the first instance students should speak to the exchanges or international office in their university for application details.

If your university does not have an exchange agreement with SOAS then you can still apply to spend one semester or one year at SOAS as part of your undergraduate degree on the 'Study Abroad' programme. Further information and an application form can be found in our Study Abroad and Exchange section or please contact studyabroad@soas.ac.uk

SOAS Careers Service

The SOAS Careers Service can help you to find volunteering opportunities and can provide information and advice on finding paid employment during your studies and after graduation. There will be a number of jobs (both voluntary and paid) within SOAS itself (for example, in the Students’ Union or cafe) and you can look out for these opportunities through the Careers Service or via the Students’ Union.

Alumni

SOAS has alumni all over the world, if you would like to contact an alum to ask any questions, please visit SOAS alumni.
