The table below includes the data management and sharing requirements of external funders of SOAS research and links to their official guidance. Please contact outputs@soas.ac.uk if your funder isn’t listed and you aren’t sure of their data management and sharing requirements.

ESRC Data Management Plan required with application according to set template.
  • data access statement in published journal articles
  • research data must be deposited in UK Data Archive within three months of close of project
  • research data to be stored on SOAS network for 10 years after project ends
European Commission FP7 Scheme No specific data management plan required in application.
  • all research data and associated files to be kept on SOAS network for five years after close of project for auditing purposes
  • data sharing encouraged but not mandated
European Commission Horizon 2020 Scheme Data Management Plan required within six months of start of project according to set template, regular updates to Data Management Plan expected throughout project.
  • research data in suitable data repository with open license e.g. CC-BY licence where possible
  • opt out permitted for ethical reasons if justified properly
DFID Access and Data Management Plan required in project design.
  • research data in suitable open data repository within 12 months of final data collection
  • retain all original raw data for minimum of five years after project completion and provide access to them on request
Wellcome Data Management and Sharing Plan required with application.
  • all research data that underpins publications to be available in a data repository wherever possible by the time of publication
  • research data to be stored on SOAS network for 10 years after close of project
Leverhulme Trust No specific data management plan required in application.
  • no specific requirements related to data sharing
British Academy Statement on data management and sharing required before start of project.
