Course overview
The course aims to enable students’ to understand the structures of Classical Arabic and to help them gain further understanding of the language of the Qur'an.
Students will also explore the aesthetic features of the Qur’anic Language, and the main characteristics of sarf (morphology) and nahw (grammar and conjugation). They will also gain analytic skills that enables them to work independently in order to understand the context with minimal reference to translation. Prior knowledge of Main grammatical rules and good reading skills are essential.
Method
The course is taught in English and Arabic and emphasis is placed on reading and comprehension skills; however, all other skills will be tackled too. This course provides a good balance between understanding the system of Qur’anic conjugation, syntax and translation.
Students will also acquire and develop analytical skills enabling them to comprehend linguistic aspects of the holy Quran. They will be working in groups and individually to achieve the learning objectives.
This will be achieved through 20 hours of blended learning each term: this is composed of 15 hours of online structured lessons with the teacher. This is supplemented by a minimum of 5 hours of guided independent learning supported by complementary material. The course objective will be achieved within the 10-week course.

Entry requirements and progression route
This is the second stage of the Qur’anic Arabic course. You either need to have completed the Elementary 3 with us, or you need to be assessed for your reading and comprehension skills, you can request an assessment here. The progression route from Qur’anic Arabic Pre-intermediate 1 is to Pre-intermediate 2, then from Pre-intermediate 2 to Pre-intermediate 3.

Structure
Arabic (Qur’anic) Pre-Intermediate 1
Through the Qur’anic context, in this course you will:
- Build fluency through reading a selection of the Qur'anic texts
- Apply Sifaat (characteristics) of letters while reading the Qur’an
- Introduce to the Quranic symbols that aid Tajweed
- Continue to analyse Qur'an verses according to the rules of Sarf and Nahw
- Continue to work on grammatical structure within the Qur'an including:
- Differentiate between active and passive verbs
- Compare the structure and function of nominal and verbal sentence
- Introduce the active and passive participle patterns
- Construct verbal nouns from different verb patterns
- Conjugate verb forms II to IX in the past, present and imperative tenses
- Explore the function of different types of accusative nouns in the Qur'an
- Distinguish relative pronouns and explain relative clauses
