This CPD workshop is designed for both new language teachers and experienced educators looking to transition into communicative teaching at any level, including primary, secondary, and higher education.

It will focus on enhancing teaching expertise, improving lesson-planning efficiency, and providing a structured approach to staging lessons effectively. Participants will learn how to guide students from language presentation to practice and, ultimately, to confident and enjoyable language production. Offered at the SOAS Language Centre, this intensive course leads to a CPD Certificate in Teaching Foreign Languages, combining theoretical input with practical teaching applications in engaging and interactive sessions.

This workshop is hands-on and interactive, with practical activities, peer collaboration, and real-world teaching applications. Participants will practice lesson staging, try out new techniques, and get feedback from trainers and fellow teachers. The focus is on practical skills, ensuring you leave with effective strategies you can use in your classroom right away.

The programme will be delivered by a team of experienced trainers, supported by a diverse group of SOAS Language Centre teachers. With expertise spanning a wide range of languages—including European, African, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Near and Middle Eastern languages, as well as Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Arabic—our trainers bring a wealth of knowledge and practical insights. Their collective experience in teaching different linguistic and cultural contexts will ensure a rich, dynamic learning experience for all participants.

This CPD workshop runs both on campus and online, with a hybrid format ensuring full participation in discussions and activities. While on-campus attendance is encouraged for the best experience, online participants will have equal access to all sessions and exercises.
