Course overview
Course aim
The course aims to consolidate and to improve the skills acquired on the Pre-Intermediate course or similar courses, and to develop communicative skills in a wide range of contexts enabling the student to effectively interact in informal and formal situations with spoken and written language. This course is delivered by the Language Centre.
Method
The course is taught in English and Korean and includes coverage of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and a good balance between understanding the systems of Korean grammar and vocabulary, developing the skills of comprehending and producing Korean in speech and writing, guided practice in language usage and use and authentic communicative activities.
This will be achieved through 20 hours of blended learning: this is composed of 15 hours of online structured lessons with the teacher. This is supplemented by a minimum of 5 hours of guided independent learning supported by complementary material. The course objective will be achieved within the 10-week course.

All levels of the Sejong Korean E-Book are available on the Nuri SejongHakdang website. The textbook is not included in the course fee. We strongly recommend waiting until your course is confirmed before purchasing the textbook.
Entry requirements and progression route
To be able to join Korean Intermediate course you should have completed a Korean Pre-Intermediate at SOAS Language Centre or have an equivalent knowledge of guided learning hours (approximately 120 hours). The progression route from Korean Intermediate 1 is to Korean Intermediate 2; from Intermediate 2 to Intermediate 3. Upon successful completion of Korean Intermediate 3 you will be able to progress to an Upper-Intermediate level course in Korean.

Structure
Korean Intermediate 1
In this course you will cover:
- travel experiences; Feelings and emotions; talking about special experiences and mistakes
- cooking ingredients; Methods and Recipes for meals
- movies and dramas; Understanding characteristics of movies and television dramas
- fashion; Describing clothing and matching accessories and exploring the characteristics of fashion
Korean Intermediate 2
In this course you will cover:
- personality; Analyzing personalities and expressing the advantages and disadvantages of certain personalities
- reflections of the past; Korean studies
- occupation; Career and preparing for a job
- seasonal weather features; Seasonal activities and reading weather forecasts
Korean Intermediate 3
In this course you will cover:
- reading about the genre and characteristics of your favorite music; work related to popular music; types of popular music; the popularity of K-Pop
- finding directions; explaining directions and available road facilities
- the name and meaning of an anniversary in Korea; the types of gifts and, reading advertisements for anniversary events
- product features; shopping related vocabulary, exchanges and refunds, reading product reviews
