Course overview
Persian Beginners: Reading, Writing and Translation is an on campus face-to-face course designed to enable learners to read, write and translate. The Beginners 1 level is aimed at complete beginners.
Persian Beginners 2: Reading, Writing and Translation is aimed at students who have completed the Persian Beginners 1: Reading, Writing and Translation course at SOAS LC (see Structure below for contents) or equivalent.
The courses cover basic grammar and essential vocabulary, allowing learners to conduct text analysis effectively and with confidence in Persian on a limited range of topics relating to everyday situations. This course is delivered by the Language Centre
Method
The course is taught in Persian and English and focuses on the acquisition of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing; with an emphasis on reading, writing and translating. Students engage in a variety of language activities, to practice vocabulary and grammar structures.
Learners are expected to attend regularly, participate in class and complete homework regularly to ensure learning progress.
By the end of the first term, learners should be able to read, write and translate Persian at a basic level. Learners should be able to understand simple oral and written texts and understand specific information on simple topics.

Entry requirements and progression route
For the first stage of Persian Beginners 1: Reading, Writing and Translation, no previous knowledge is required. The progression route from Persian Beginners 1: Reading, Writing and Translation is Persian Beginners 2: Reading, Writing and Translation. From Persian Beginners 2: Reading, Writing and Translation to Persian Beginners 3: Reading, Writing and Translation.
