Biography

Dr Angela Cheung is an art historian and researcher specialising in the History of Photography. Her doctoral thesis sought to consider how an examination of the materiality of 19th century photography could be used to re-contextualise art historical narratives about early photography of China. She also holds an MA in History of Art (SOAS) and an MA in Photographic Studies (University of Westminster). Angela is currently researching the materiality of Colonial photography held within British photographic archives.

Research interests

My research interests include the History of Photography; 19th/20th century photography of China; The Materiality of the photographic archive, Sino-British History; Transnational Contemporary art and Curatorial practices.
