David Garciandia Igal

David Garciandía Igal is a PhD candidate in Law at the University of Oxford (Hertford College) and a GTA in EU law at SOAS University of London. His thesis examines the European Union's promotion of human rights in China through law, under the supervision of Prof Ngoc Son Bui. He completed an MPhil in Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge in 2021, funded by a Ramón Areces scholarship, and graduated in Business Administration (BBA) and in Laws (LLB), receiving the Extraordinary Prize for the top GPA of the Law Faculty, at the Public University of Navarre in 2020.

His main research interests span EU external relations law, with a particular focus on EU-China relations, and human rights law, especially freedom of religion. He has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals and a book with Brazilian Judge Aloisio C. dos Santos Jr. about the corporate duty of reasonable accommodation of religious beliefs in the workplace. In addition, he has been a visiting lecturer at the University of Manchester and he is part of a research project on religious minorities funded by the Spanish National Research Agency (2021/2023). 

He is a convenor of the Oxford EU Law Discussion Group and a founder and the current president of the Oxford Spanish Society. Additionally, he founded and chairs an NGO (Ankyu) and has worked for the Permanent Mission of Spain to the United Nations in Vienna, as well as for different private companies (Siemens Gamesa) and law firms (Garrigues).
