About this event

'An insight into Korean culture: scratch beneath the surface'

The popularity of Korean popular culture around the world has skyrocketed over the past decade. Even people with no knowledge of Korea would have heard at least one of these words: Gangnam Style, BTS, Squid Game, and Parasite. However, most people only look at the surface of Korean culture.

The Masterclass will explore Korean culture on a deeper level and will be looking critically at inappropriate cultural appreciation. Participants will develop critical thinking and analytical skills.

Online Masterclasses are subject based and are two hours long. They consist of a topic-based lecture and interactive activity, led by a SOAS academic. There is also a workshop on Higher Education led by Student Ambassadors.
