About this event
José Luis Rodríguez (CIEM), Gladys Hernándezis (CIEM), Emily Morris (UCL)
Having survived a severe crisis in the wake of the Soviet Union's collapse, the Cuban economy still faces major challenges. As they seek to implement measures to achieve restructuring and boost growth, Cuban policy makers have to contend with a legacy of monetary imbalance, while the US continues its attempts at economic asphyxiation. Dr Rodríguez, an academic economist who served as Cuba's economy minister during a decade of crisis from the mid-1990s, will offer his analysis of Cuba's recent economic policy and performance and Gladys Hernándezis will be joining the discussion.
