SADRC mentoring group will welcome Dr. Amel Makhlouf, Dr. Dorothee Schramm, and Hanh Huynh on the topic of "Tribunal secretaries in international arbitration: practical guidelines and new tools". 

This webinar will explore the role of a tribunal secretary in the organisation of an arbitration and the skills required to excel in this mission. It will explore the tasks and support provided by the tribunal secretary from receipt of the case until the submission of the award by the arbitral tribunal. The session will also present a new tool that is about to be launched: the world's first global Tribunal Secretary Platform.

About the speakers

Dr Amel Makhlouf is an independent counsel and arbitrator qualified to practice in Paris, specialised in international arbitration, banking and finance, FinTech, Islamic law and finance, and laws of the Arab Middle East. She has gained extensive experience in cross-border disputes and arbitral proceedings based in the MENA region.

Amel is a member (MCIArb) of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and a research associate at the Centre of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law (CIMEL) of SOAS University of London.

She belongs to the Board Committee of the Algiers Arbitration Day and to the Management Committee of the SOAS Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Centre (SADRC). She is also a lecturer in both, international arbitration and banking and finance, at the Paris Bar School. 

Dr Dorothee Schramm is a Swiss independent arbitrator who is deciding complex commercial disputes around the world. A former partner at Sidley Austin LLP, Dorothee has hands-on advocacy experience in billion-dollar cases and feels at home in both civil law and common law contexts, having been part of a common law team for over a decade. While Dorothee’s 20 years’ arbitration experience spans many industries, she has a particular focus on technology, life sciences, engineering, and energy. Dorothee had been sitting as an arbitrator for over a decade before making herself independent as a full-time arbitrator in 2022. 

Hanh Huynh is the Head of Jus Connect at Jus Mundi.

With unique expertise in both the legal and finance sectors, Hanh’s experience is pivotal to driving Jus Connect, the world’s first professional network for arbitration.Her legal career began at an international US law firm and continued in-house at Amazon.

After years of legal practice, she took the leap and joined a Venture Capital fund that co-invested together with the world’s leading UK and US Funds.
