Your guide to Clearing

How Clearing works

The SOAS Clearing hotline will open on Thursday 15 August 2024 (A level results day).

You can check UCAS to see if you're eligible for Clearing. UCAS will not send anything in the post to tell you if you are eligible, so it is important that you check online.

If you are eligible for Clearing an 'Add Clearing choice' button will appear on your UCAS 'choices' screen, which you can use to accept a place on a course you have been offered through Clearing.

Once you have your results

Here's what you'll need to do once you have your results and have an idea of what you're next steps will be:

  1. On results day check your UCAS account. Your application status will tell you if you are eligible for Clearing.
  2. Call SOAS's Clearing hotline on 0203 912 6580 and speak to one of our friendly advisor about your options. You will need:
    • Your Grades
    • Choice of course
    • UCAS number
  3. The hotline operator will ask about your qualifications, grades, and preferred programme
  4. If we are able to consider your application, they will submit an application on your behalf
  5. Admissions will review your application and send one of the following emails*:
    • Making you an offer on your chosen programme
    • Making you an offer on an alternative programme
    • Advising your application has been unsuccessful
    • Requesting further information (if we do not have enough information to complete our assessment or cannot see your qualifications on UCAS because you are holding an offer elsewhere)

*We usually aim to get back to you with an outcome of your application within an hour. However, please note that this is an exceptionally busy time so it might take longer.
