Clearing at SOAS

Getting ready for Clearing

Clearing is your opportunity to explore options one final time before September, whether you’re applying to university for the first time or have already applied elsewhere.

You might be applying to SOAS (or university) for the first time, reconsidering the course or universities you have applied to, or feeling uncertain about your upcoming results and looking to keep your options open. No matter your circumstances, our team are here to support you through the process and help you find the perfect course for your goals.

You can use clearing if:

  • You didn’t quite get the results you wanted on A-Level results day
  • You’re applying to university after 30 June
  • You didn’t receive any offers (or any you wanted to accept)
  • You have offers but you’ve changed your mind about what or where you want to study

Why choose SOAS

At SOAS we're all about helping you turn your passion into a career with our unique specialist subjects and dedicated experts who teach them. Don't take our word for it though, speak to a current student and find out what they love about studying at SOAS.

Step by step guide

The SOAS Clearing hotline will open on Thursday 15 August 2024 (A level results day). Here's what you'll need to do once you have your results and have an idea of what you're next steps will be:

  1. Call the Clearing hotline (0203 912 6580). Please have your UCAS Personal ID, Clearing ID and grades ready
  2. The hotline operator will ask about your qualifications, grades, and preferred programme
  3. If we are able to consider your application, they will submit an application on your behalf
  4. Admissions will review your application and send one of the following emails:
    • Making you an offer on your chosen programme
    • Making you an offer on an alternative programme
    • Advising your application has been unsuccessful

* Requesting further information (if we do not have enough information to complete our assessment or cannot see your qualifications in UCAS because you are holding an offer elsewhere)

Accepting your SOAS Clearing offer

  1. To accept your offer, log into your UCAS application and click on 'Add a Clearing Choice'
  2. Enter the SOAS institution code S09 and the programme you have been offered a place on (these are shown in your provisional offer email)
    • We strongly advise you to have registered for a UCAS account in advance as this will ensure that you are able to respond to our offer by the deadline specified in your offer email
  3. If you are holding a place at another university, you will need to be released before you can refer yourself to SOAS in UCAS. You can self release in UCAS if you are holding an unconditional offer with another university
  4. After you add your Clearing Choice on your UCAS application, it will then be referred to us. We will then accept you subject to verifying the information that has been provided on your Clearing application form. We aim to do this within 48 hours of your referring yourself to SOAS. Once we have confirmed your place this will then update on UCAS.
