Biography
Abdu is an experienced former diplomat and current international relation/studies academic currently pursuing a PhD in international Development at the Department of Development studies, SOAS University of London.
Before joining SOAS, he was an Eritrean diplomat, worked for more than a decade as an expert and Desk officer at the Department of the Middle East and North Africa Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Eritrea.
He is also an experienced African Affairs expert with particular focus on the Horn of Africa, working as an independent political consultant with several London based companies, providing executive briefing to senior CEOs and other stakeholders interested in the region. He also a full time researcher and teaching fellow at the SOAS where he has been running tutorials in different modules.
Abdu’s areas of interest includes international relations, border studies s well as peace and conflict studies. His PhD research examines the impact of the protracted border closure between Eritrea and Ethiopia (from 1998 to 2018 and beyond) on the borderland communities residing near the international border between the two countries..
