Anne-Line Rodriguez works on the social experiences in West Africa of the European governance of migration. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from SOAS. Her thesis, entitled Social respectability in Dakar at the time of EU border closure: an ethnography, examined the new formations of subjectivity and practices created in Senegal in the context of EU migration control. Current research focus and interests include: EU migration policies in Europe and their externalisation to West Africa; ‘illegality’ in Europe; the anthropology of urban West Africa; involuntary immobility; youth; gender; hope and aspirations; the moral economy; the development system.
