Biography
Bethany is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow in the School of Social and Political Sciences. She joined the University of Lincoln in 2023 as lecturer in sociology after completing her PhD in Gender Studies at SOAS University of London.
Bethany's doctoral research was situated at the intersection of critical race and gender studies, colonial and postcolonial studies, and human rights and humanitarianism. The thesis used a combination of ethnographic and archival research methods to explore the decolonisation of human rights monitoring and unarmed civilian peacekeeping in occupied Palestine. Bethany's research interests include the reproduction of colonial logics in global north to south solidarity relationships, and British responsibility for the legacies of colonialism. Bethany's current Leverhulme project is called 'Reckoning for Racial Justice? A study of the Impact of Addressing Colonial Pasts'.
