Biography

Carlos Muianga is an economist and currently a PhD candidate in Development Studies at SOAS, University of London, where he has been awarded a MSc in Development Economics (2014).

Carlos has worked as a researcher at the Institute for Social and Economic Studies (Mozambique) for almost a decade and a half. His main areas of interest have been the political economy of capital accumulation in Mozambique, Agrarian Political Economy, Finance and Development, (rural) labour, employment and social reproduction. 

His PhD research is focused on the dynamics of (capitalist) agrarian accumulation in Mozambique, in particular in the Limpopo valley. The aim of this research is to offer an empirical contribution to the understanding of context-specific process of agrarian (capitalist) accumulation in the historical conditions of Mozambique and, therefore, close the existing gap in the investigation of these particular issues in the country.
