About this event

This lecture explores the asynchronous temporalities within Taiwan’s media landscape with regard to the representation of gender.

Specifically, it examines how traditional media—in particular TV and films—have gradually incorporated progressive gender values, while certain segments of the digital media space have witnessed a resurgence of conservative ideologies.

The lecture identifies the political-economic factors underlying these segmented temporalities, and seeks to provide insights into how the local, regional and global forces contribute to the varying temporal adoption of progressive gender ideologies across Taiwan’s media spaces.
