This open to public lecture explores challenges The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum faces in engaging diverse audiences and preserving its legacy, requiring a reassessment of various strategies.

Situated strategically within the rural expanse of Chiayi County, the  the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum (NPMSB)  confronted a distinctive set of challenges and opportunities in its pursuit of engaging both local and international audiences while preserving the legacy and identity of the esteemed NPM. This transformative process mandated a comprehensive reassessment of exhibition strategies, collection management protocols, community engagement initiatives, and audience outreach endeavors. 

This event is open to public and no need for registration.

Meet the speakers

Dr. Chih-I Lai is a full-time curator of Asian decorative arts at the National Palace Museum (NPM) in Taiwan. Her expertise lies in material and visual culture, with a specialization in analyzing museum collections using the methodology of design anthropology.

As a dedicated keeper and curator, she actively explores the artistic exchange and influences between diverse cultures as part of her research interests. She recently updated the permanent textile exhibition at the Southern Branch of the NPM under the theme of “Wrapping Cultures: Asian Textiles from the NPM Collection” in 2023.

Her work contributes to the understanding and preservation of the Qing court collection in the museum within a broader cultural context.
