About this event

Welcome to the BlueRights: Life, liberty, and health at sea - Conference! Join us at SOAS University of London and at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) for a day of insightful discussions and networking opportunities on the topic of human rights at sea.

If unable to join in person, you can join us online (link to be distributed a few days before the event)

Our event will focus on the importance of upholding the right to life, the right to liberty and the right to health at sea, looking at current developments and exploring future possibilities.

The event will feature expert speakers from academia, international organisations and civil society. Do not miss this chance to learn, connect, and contribute to the ongoing conversation on human rights at sea. See you there!

The Conference is jointly organised by SOAS, BIICL, and Basel University, and is the opening event of the COST Action "BlueRights" - Life, Liberty and Health: Ensuring Universal Protection of Human Rights at Sea (CA23103). COST Actions is an EU-funded scheme that supports the creation of networks of academics, practitioners, and stakeholders in emerging societal fields and that fund related networking activities for 4 years. BlueRights aims to assess, from a legal perspective, how human rights can be enjoyed also by people at sea and by all people at sea. It will answer two fundamental questions: What is the content and scope of the rights to life, liberty, and health when applied at sea, and who is responsible for protecting them and how?
