About this event
Archiving Gaza in the Present is a conference organised by the Arab British Centre and the Centre for Palestine Studies, SOAS.
This 2-day conference has two main aims: the first is to examine the ongoing erasure of the Palestinian heritage of Gaza from several different perspectives that highlight the history, the nature and importance of the institutions, the structures and sites that are in the process of being erased, the degradation of the land itself, the legal implications of these actions and the reporting of it.
The second, is to look to the future, to bring information and key actors together, to discuss the importance of memory – collective and individual – in the reinforcement of cultural and intellectual legacies and identities. This collaborative conference is aimed at a diverse audience and with a range of authoritative speakers from across different fields to include lawyers, artists, filmmakers, architects, archaeologists, museum professionals, journalists, poets and musicians.
