Summary

Amado Alfadni's Alternative Museum of the Sudan show at the Sulger-Buel Gallery of Contemporary African Art in south London explores the relationship between colonialism and Black Africa. The Egyptian-born artist uses postcards and photographs for mixed-media costumes.

The Artist will be in conversation with curators, Najlaa El-Ageli and Alessandra Ferrini.

About the Curators

Najlaa El-Ageli of Noon Arts - Founded by Najlaa El-Ageli, Noon Arts was her passionate endeavour that curated nine successful international exhibitions held in London (UK), Malta, Tripoli (Libya) and California (US). Collaborating with respected arts venues and in association with the London-based ‘Shubbak Festival’ and ‘The Nour Festival’, Libyan art was offered the space it deserved by exhibiting it to a savvy global audience.

Alessandra Ferrini is a London-based artist, researcher, and educator, a PhD candidate at the University of the Arts London and Research Fellow at the British School at Rome. Experimenting with the expansion and hybridization of the documentary film, her research questions the legacies of Italian colonialism and Fascism. She is one of the finalists of the Maxxi Bvlgari Prize 2022 and was the recipient of the 2017 London Film Festival’s Experimenta Pitch Award. She has exhibited internationally, including at: ar/ge kunst Bozen, MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art Thessaloniki, Manifesta 13 Les Parallels du Sud, Sharjah Film Platform, Villa Romana, 2nd Lagos Biennal, Istanbul Biennal’s collateral at Depo, Manifesta 12 Film Programme, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.

The 'Alternative Museum of The Sudan' exhibition is on until 30 June 2022 and viewing is available by appointment only.
