Achille Mbembe defined a biosphere as “not only a physical, organic, geological or atmospheric reality … it is also interwoven with noumenal realities that lie at the source of existential meaning.”

In this lecture Professor Abu Sittah argues that Israel has created a biosphere of genocide in Gaza, with the aim of perpetuating genocidal erasure well beyond any cessation of military action. Professor Abu Sittah will explore the difference between war and genocide as a doctor who has experienced both and unpack the social, physical and biological components of this biosphere of genocide as seen in Gaza.

I will show this biosphere contains within it a web of conduits for injury and its implication for wars in the 21st Century.
