About this event
Harsh Mander
India has long been held up as the world’s largest democracy. But Harsh Mander will argue
that its democracy is fraying worryingly in many ways. Most of all, this is reflected in the
mounting campaign of hate built up against its minorities, the criminal targeting of
dissenters, the crushing of labour rights of working people, and the dilution of various
institutions of democracy, including the political opposition, the higher judiciary, the Election
Commission, the independent civil service, the media, academia and civil society.
Harsh Mander, Centre for Equity Studies, Delhi and Richard von Weizsacker Fellow of the
Robert Bosch Academy, Berlin.
