SOAS/KAYD Somali Week Workshop
In this workshop we will explore how the changing Somali politics and notions of home, belonging and citizenship shape the construction of minority identities, and the situation of marginalised social groups. We will examine the historical and contemporary situations of these groups, and explore what can be done to promote inclusive policy and practice. Inspired by the academic and activist work of the late Dr Virginia Luling, the aim is to bring together insights from research, policy and practice on these issues, with a panel of specialist speakers followed by general discussion.
Participants will include academics, students, members of Somali minority groups, lawyers, civil society workers, as well as the interested general public. The event will be followed by light refreshments. Space is limited so please register in advance with Danielle Faye Tran (dt37@soas.ac.uk) if you are planning to come, sending your name, and email / organisation (if relevant).
