About this event

The extraordinary Turkish singer, Tülay German defied family and social expectations with her professional, political, and personal choices.

Director, Didem Pekün gives her first-person account of the artist as she explores the connections between art, politics, and identity asking questions which are still urgent and relevant to the contemporary context. The film has been screened internationally, won awards and has been widely reviewed by international critics.

This event is free and open to all.

Didem Pekün is a filmmaker and academic based in Istanbul and Berlin. She has made several films that tackle questions of political violence, displacement and their myriad intersections. Her films have been shown at Berlinale, Venice, BFI London Film Festival, Sarajevo Film Festivals. Didem holds a BA (Hons) Music from SOAS and holds an MA & a PhD from Visual Cultures, Goldsmiths.
