About this event

Comedian, author and writer Sadia Azmat joins us for our spring event on relationships, sexuality and stand-up - followed by refreshments!

Sadia has many different sides to her, she is the good Muslim sister and the loud and proud comedian, she is the quiet and loving friend and the horny and outspoken one. So why does everyone put her in a box and expect her to choose between one or the other? In a life of ups and downs, swings and roundabouts, Sadia has learnt the hard way that she can embrace her sexuality and be a proud British-Indian Muslim.

From discovering her sexual identity after seeing a copy of Asian Babes in the corner shop to rejecting an arranged marriage and feeling distanced from her culture; from her experience dating white and Asian men to her tumultuous relationship with her headscarf, Sadia is unafraid to spill the honest truth.

The world has so many caveats for their interactions with Muslim, single women. They don't know how to take us - which is funny since no one's ever asked! This often leaves women like Sadia to figure it out ourselves - so Sadia decided to write a tell-all book, Sex Bomb, to share experiences that she wish she had seen when she was growing up.

Sadia wrote Sex Bomb to shine a light on what the dating scene and life means when there are so many expectations of you set by society, and the consequences. She shares her journey into finding stand-up comedy a world of misfits which she still doesn't always feels like she belongs in. She will be here to answer all the questions you may have about balancing modern life with faith, and why they may not be so conflicted as we are led to believe.

The event will feature a live author reading, discussion on the themes in the book, audience Q&A, and an opportunity to learn how to get into writing and stand up. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase.
