About this event
Join us for an evening with H.E. Dr. Fatou Bensouda, High Commissioner of The Gambia to the UK and the Commonwealth and former Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), as she reflects on her distinguished career navigating the complex intersections of international law, diplomacy, and global politics.
Having led some of the most significant investigations from 2012 to 2021, Dr. Bensouda will provide first-hand insights into the challenges and realities of making the ICC work, from securing state cooperation to navigating political pressures and diplomatic negotiations. This discussion will explore key themes, including:
- The practical challenges of implementing international criminal justice
- The diplomatic and political dynamics of prosecuting genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity
- The ICC’s role in global governance and multilateral diplomacy
- Debates on sovereignty, accountability, and justice
- Lessons from bilateral and multilateral diplomacy in international legal practice
The event will feature a brief talk by H.E. Dr. Bensouda, followed by a conversation led by Dr. Nick Westcott and Q&A, offering attendees the opportunity to gain unique insights from one of the most prominent figures in international justice and diplomacy.
This event is organised by the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at SOAS University of London.
