Join us for an engaging evening with Dr. Måns Broo, Senior Lecturer at Åbo Akademi University Finland and Principal Investigator of the research project, "In the Middle and in the Margins: Yoga Practitioners in Finland."
In this talk, Dr. Måns Broo from Åbo Akademi University, Finland, will share some early findings of a research project that he leads. Funded by the Academy of Finland and the Polin Institute in Åbo, the project focuses on worldviews, values, politics, conspirituality and views on gender and sexuality among yoga practitioners in Finland, using both quantitative and qualitative data.
This is an in-person only event by the SOAS Centre of Yoga Studies. A hybrid option (via Zoom) may be available but isn’t guaranteed.
Meet the speaker
Måns Broo is a senior lecturer at the department of the Study of Religions at Åbo Akademi University, Finland, from where he recieved his PhD in 2003, and an affiliated research fellow at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies.
His research, mainly focused on yoga, ritual and Bengali Vaishnavism, has both a philological and a sociological side to it, the latter coming to the foreground in the project In the Middle and in the Margins: Yoga Practitioners in Finland (2023-2026), of which he is the PI. His latest monograph is the first volume of a critical edition and annotated translation of the 16th-century ritual text Haribhaktivilasa (Brill 2023).
