Synopsis
In the unspoken segregation of migrant workers of different nationalities in Hong Kong, Victoria Park is the hub for those from Indonesia. On Sundays, this urban concrete park and nearby areas are full of Indonesian women. In this film Mayang (Lola Amaria) becomes a domestic worker in Hong Kong in order to search for her sister Sekar (Titi Sjuman). Sekar, once a domestic worker, is now making a living in the bright lights of Hong Kong. The film chronicles the lives of TKW (Indonesian women migrant workers) and how they slip from one status to another as a result of debt.
97 minutes - Indonesian with English subtitles
The film will be followed by a brief round table discussion by Ben Murtagh (Department of Languages and Cultures of Southeast Asia), Parvathi Raman (Department of Anthropology and Sociology and Chair of the Centre for Migration and Diaspora Studies) and Carol Tan (School of Law and Chair of CSEAS).
