About this event
Opening times: 10:30am-5pm Tuesday – Saturday and late on Thursdays until 8pm. Entry free and open to the public. On until 10 December 2022
The Brunei Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of SOAS’s incredible permanent collection of artworks and objects. In this exhibition, we seek to make the collections physically available to students, researchers and the public. As well as the objects on display in the exhibition, our collections are also digitally accessible online, both on our website and on the library catalogue.
The exhibition will display a selection of objects and artworks from the SOAS Collections that reflect many of the diverse subjects and regions studied by the School being dedicated to promoting a better understanding of the art, culture, history and contemporary contexts of Africa, Asia and the Middle East. They include modern and contemporary paintings and other artworks, as well as historic paintings, varied ceramic objects, sculptures and metalwork. The SOAS collections are used in education, for teaching, research and display. Developed informally over SOAS’s history since its foundation in 1916, it has been built up through donations, gifts and bequests from visiting dignitaries, SOAS staff, alumni and individuals with specific items relating to SOAS’s subjects, area and regions of study.
