About this event

About this event

Journeys of empire encompass so many different aspects of South Asian identity in British South Asians, in particular when it comes to where we currently are.

Most of us will be watching this today in Britain. We have had those journeys of empire, we've been influenced by how empire has had an impact on our presence here in the UK, our identities, and also the ways in which the diaspora communities are dispersed.

South Asian Heritage Month has been a journey for many of us across the country and it's about ensuring that we're in a position to celebrate our identity and heritage, commemorate important dates in history and make sure that everyone leaves the month having learned at least one new thing the education aspect and angle of South Asian Heritage Month.

Organiser:

The Festival is co-directed by Dr Sanjukta Ghosh (SSAI) and Farzana Qureshi (SOAS Library).

The festival is in partnership with South Asian Heritage Month, the well-known month-long celebration in the United Kingdom (similar in spirit to Black History Month) to celebrate the heritage of people with roots in the South Asian countries of Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives.

The SOAS SAHM is in collaboration with Jasvir Singh OBE and Dr Binita Kane along with the wider team members.
