Biography

Jing Zhang is Research fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Structural Transformation (CSST) at SOAS University of London.

joined CSST as a research fellow after she completed her PhD in Development Policy at the Development Planning Unit, University College London. 

Her main research interests are in the areas of urbanisation and industrialisation, infrastructure development, global China and the political economy of low-carbon development. Her thesis mainly investigates the politics in formulating and implementing Ethiopia’s industrial park programme, as well as the policy learning between China and Ethiopia. During her PhD, Jing also worked at the Development Planning Unit as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the MSc Programme Urban Economic Development, supporting teaching and research; supervising MSc dissertations on the topics of sustainable infrastructure development, foreign direct investments and urbanisation, and evaluation of industrial and urban policies. 

Prior to her PhD, Jing was a research fellow at the China Development Research Foundation (CDRF), affiliated with the Development Research Centre of State Council, P.R. China. Working with a multitude of stakeholders from central and local governments, multinational companies, and international organisations such as the Ford Foundation and OECD,  Jing’s previous research experiences covered a wide range of economic policy issues in China related to female entrepreneurship and leadership, urban and regional integration, infrastructure development and PPP.
