Call for papers: 'Law in Transformation' for the 16th Annual Law PhD Colloquium
The School of Law at SOAS University of London invites submissions for the 16th Law Graduate Student Colloquium 2024 on the theme “Law in Transformation.”
Law has been a stable reality of human life in myriad forms for its role in society. Additionally, the category of law is dynamic and overlapping in its imagination, construction and operation. These transformations have highlighted various sites of conflict, challenges, convergences and agreements.
We invite PhD researchers to unpack these complex dynamics, formations and transformations of law in a globalised world, where legal systems, practices, and theories are continually in flux, responding to—and— shaping the complexities of contemporary society at various junctures.
Potential contributions include but are not limited to:
- Crisis within international law and human rights ‘guarantees’
- Transnational legal systems confronting questions raised by TWAIL
- Ecological law and harmony with nature: perspectives on climate change, possible approaches and challenges
- AI and digital technologies: challenges to equality
- Challenges from customary law in contemporary legal practice
- Contemporary legal thought and their impact on the transformations of law and developing jurisprudence
- Costs of convergence in constitutional law: subaltern movements and approaches to legal remedies
This 1-day colloquium aims to bring together PhD scholars to present, discuss and engage their ongoing research. Participants will benefit from a supportive environment, gaining invaluable insights and perspectives through their peers and the expertise of distinguished faculty members from SOAS Law.
