SOAS Researchers Participate in UN Climate Conference in Madrid

Four researchers from the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance participated in the UN climate conference (COP25) in Madrid.

Thomas Tanner, Reader in Environment and Development, chaired a session at the annual Development and Climate Days at COP25 , exploring gender myths and developing strategies to make gender-responsive climate finance a reality.

Ulrich Volz, Director of the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance and Reader in Economics, contributed to a COP25 side event on ‘Assessing climate transition risk & scaling up climate investments’ at the European Union Pavilion. In his talk he highlighted the impact of climate risks – both physical and transition risks – on the cost of capital in climate vulnerable developing countries and discussed ways of addressing this problem.

Harald Heubaum, Deputy Director of the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance and Lecturer in Global Energy and Climate Policy, and Felicia Jackson, Chief Executive of the Sustainable Financial Data Initiative, participated in COP25 discussions on developing standardised and reliable data on climate and sustainable finance.
