Biography
Seiko Okayama is a PhD candidate specialising in contemporary politics in South Asia.
Seiko is interested in how ‘subaltern’ communities negotiate with political parties as they endeavour to uphold and expand their political influence. Seiko's doctoral project has been funded by the Japanese Government and various academic foundations, such as the Uehiro Foundation on Ethics and Education, the K. Matsushita Foundation, the Resona Foundation on Asia and Oceania, and the Suntory Foundation.
Her interdisciplinary work spans the fields of political history, political science, and political sociology, shedding light on the multifaceted dynamics of inter and intra-party politics. Seiko’s master's theses, submitted to the University of Tokyo and the University of London, delved into the micro-dynamics of the 1980s, serving as a pivotal juncture in the socio political history of South Asia.
