Biography

Shreya is a PhD candidate in the Department of Politics and International Studies at SOAS, co-supervised by Dr. Meera Sabaratnam and Dr. Mark Laffey.

Her doctoral project focuses on the emergence of a community of legal practitioners in colonial India and their engagement with some of the core concepts in international law, particularly sovereignty, rights, legal plurality, and hybrid/shared jurisdiction. Her broader research interests centre around international theory, international historical sociology, international orders, international law, and empire. 

Shreya holds an MPhil in International Relations from the University of Oxford. Prior to this, she completed a Masters in Political Science at the University of Delhi and a BA (Hons) Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi.

She is presently an Editor (Vol. 52) at Millennium: Journal of International Studies, based out of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Alongside this role, Shreya is a graduate teaching assistant at SOAS for the postgraduate 'International Theory' module as well the undergraduate 'Introduction to IR' and 'IR of South Asia' modules. Prior to her graduate studies, she worked in research roles at UNESCO, New Delhi (Social and Human Sciences sector) as well as the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi.
